Creation Records was a British independent record label founded by Alan McGee, Dick Green and Joe Foster in 1983. Oasis were signed a worldwide contract with Sony, which licensed them to Creation. The band's first three albums- Definitely Maybe, (What's the Story) Morning Glory? and Be Here Now- were all released through Creation.

History[]

Creation was launched in 1983 by Alan McGee, Dick Green and Joe Foster. Prior to signing Oasis, the label worked with artists such as The Jesus and Mary Chain and Primal Scream.

McGee saw Oasis perform at King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in May 1993 and was reportedly so impressed he offered them a recording contract. Eventually, due to problems securing an American contract, Oasis signed a worldwide contract with Sony.

Creation won Music Week's 'Independent Label of the Year' every year between 1995 and 1998 and McGee was awarded the NME 'Godlike Genius' award in February 1995.
